What does country look like??

Hi! I've told all my friends that I want to be a country singer, and they all have the same reaction! They open their mouths in shock and say "I would hav never thought it! You don't look country at all! You look more like a rock skater person!!" So my question is, what the heck does country look like? I mean do people really 'look' country?? lol I mean I would have never thought carrie underwood would be a country singer until I heard what songs she was picking on AI, and Brad paisley don't even look country...SO what does country look like?

Right now, I have medium hair (Surfer hair) that's wavy and auburn..I usually just wear a t-shirt and jeans....would cutting my hair help you think? and if so what style (NOT A MULLET! lol)

P.S please don't say cowboy boots, and flannel shirt, because that is like the biggest stereotype, and not really any country singers wear that sort of stuff...

oh yeah some people look country. You know, wranglers, cowboy boots, the ugly mullet type hair cut....or better yet a bushy mustache. Just look at Toby Keith....hes the epitomy of "country". Its just a "redneck" look. Here in Oklahoma, almost everybody looks country. You can say...dont say cowboy boots and all that....but that stereotype IS true for the most part!

I dont know what world you live in, but most MALE country singers do wear cowboy boots and wranglers along with cowboy hats. The women are a different story.

Oh yeah and you shouldnt change your look....just go with it. If you have the voice for country, then it really doesnt matter what your hair looks like. Let the record label deal with it when you get signed.

You can fix your hair, change your clothes, and everything else. But, either you have it or you don't.

Sorry, but I think it would be impossible for you to pull it off and seem genuine.

Country music is more than a style it is a feeling.

Country is just that; a place without shopping malls. Dress like you've got to go out there and wrestle with your back yard, fix fences, and get the horses tended.

And then wash the clothes, take a shower, put it all back on, and sing it like you mean it. And if you've got it in you, darlin', find it and let it come through.

It doesn't matter what you look like as long as you can sing, People will come. Ignore people saying those things, they are just jealous of your talent which obviously they don't have. The little green eyed monster can and does bring out the worst in people. Don't change a thing. As long you are happy nothing else really matters.. Looks are associated with music, because typically people who are country wear cowboy hats and boots. Rock skaters like t-shirts and baggy shorts, gangs members have tattoes,. Goths wear lots of black and have some really weird haircuts.

A good example to look at would be Travis Tritt and Marty Stewart. They don't wear cowboy hats, which is associated with their music. Well they did a No Hats tour. So cowboy hats really didn't matter.

The Dixie Chicks, Natalie Manes, hair was strange to me when I first saw her. Her hair was not that of a typical of a country music artist. But she was country. and yeah she has some Opinions, but so what, she and the others can make some Great music.

So again, go with what you like and tell the others to Kiss Off!

Well I dont know what it is I was a country singer and middle of the road pop but people used to say "are you a country singer" I would ask why they thought I might be but they could never tell me what it was, oh an I thought Carrie Underwood was country as soon as I saw her. lol
